A CHARITY gala, organised by a group of young women, has raised more than £500 for an orphan appeal.
The B.Shika event, which took place at the Curve on Saturday, offered various beauty services for women, including hair styling, makeovers, and henna tattoos amongst others.
Organiser Shakirah Farooq, 22, said she was really pleased with how her first event went.
She said: “It was really busy all day. As soon as we were finished with one customer, we had another one waiting straight away. I’m delighted how it went.”
The women are next setting their sights on an event to raise funds for people living with disabilities.
Miss Farooq said: “We want to put on an event that highlights what these people have to go through every day of their lives.”
In total, £523 was raised during the day for the Human Appeal International’s sponsor an orphan campaign.
