A talented student who aspires to be a brain surgeon has been given a taste of Cambridge University life at the tender age of 16.

Adam Ismail, who has just left Pleckgate High School, was one of only a handful of students – and the only one from the North West – to be invited to a two-day residential event at Trinity College, Cambridge.

The event was for extremely 'gifted and talented' students who had excelled at school.

Adam was nominated by his teachers due to his outstanding achievement and attitude.

He said: “It was a valuable experience going to Cambridge.

“The city is very beautiful and I met some interesting people.

“Staying for a couple of days gave me an insight into university and it has just made me more determined to get to a good college.

“I enjoy sciences and want to study neuro-science and become a doctor in the future.”

Adam is currently awaiting his GCSE results and will then attend Cardinal Newman College in Preston.

Adam’s mum, Sunnah, 41 said: “We’re incredibly proud of Adam and his achievements.

“Our parents are originally from India where it is much more difficult to get a place at university.

“We are very thankful to the school who saw his potential and gave him the opportunity to experience Cambridge at such a young age.

“Everything Adam has achieved is through his own hard work and dedication.”

Steven Herbert, head of humanities at Pleckgate High School, said: “Adam is one of the most impressive students I have ever taught.

“His attitude to learning is exemplary and he always strives to produce his very best.

“Articulate, courteous and personable, Adam has been a pleasure to teach and I am confident that due to his commitment to personal development and continual improvement he will go on to master any career he chooses to pursue in the future.”
