A HAIR stylist said a new transatlantic face treatment for men while they are getting a trim is proving a hit.

Jignesh Madhavji is offering customers at his Jiggi Hair Salon the opportunity to have the unusual black skin face mask while he gives their locks a cut.

He said: "It's a men's grooming service and it's quite popular.

"It's big in the US and not in the UK and it's just started coming out here. It's different and it's quite quirky."

Mr Madhavji said plenty of clients are taking advantage of the £15 treatment at his salon at the Bolton Whites Hotel at the Macron Stadium.

The 31-year-old stylist said he uses a brand called Shills from the US.

He said: "It's a really good product. I did my research and I saw stylists were offering it in traditional barbershops, and I had it done myself here in the UK.

"It's offered as part of a package. I start off with a dermatological exfoliator first and then put the mask on before you start the hair cut and you leave it on for 30 minutes.

"It hardens and then you peel it off, and in those 30 minutes I cut the hair.

"It's really good for the skin and removes blackheads.

"I moisturise at the end and their skin feels nice."

Former Bolton College student Mr Madhavji said one of the big draws of the face mask is the convenience of not having to arrange a separate appointment.

He said: "Gentlemen don't like having to wait around for so long and with this they get two things done in one go. It saves a lot of time.

"We're booked up back-to-back on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

"Being in this hotel, the clients we're getting are into their grooming and are often getting ready for an occasion.

"They're all set, they're looking good, they're on point, ready for a night out, or a function or a wedding.

"The feedback we're getting is great."

Mr Madhavji said most customers combine the hair cut and face mask combo with a hot towel shave and a beard trim for the full works.

The business owner, who worked backstage at last year's MOBO Awards in Glasgow and appeared on BBC3 challenge show Celebrity Scissorhands in 2008, said the success of the new black face mask treatment is the perfect way for his salon to celebrate its fifth anniversary this week.
