A HALAL burger restaurant is coming to Newport.

The restaurant, called Burger&Co, will be on Commercial Street and is hoping to open at the beginning of January 2017.

It will focus on the halal burger market and will be sourcing their buns and meat as locally as possible.

They will offer a range of beef, chicken, lamb and vegetarian options.

The project is the brainchild of three Newport people - Shazad Ahmed, 30, Mohammed Asif, 35, and Mohammed Ashraf, 34.

Mr Ahmed said:"We will be serving a large selection of familiar, and unique side dishes such as BBQ wings and spicy sweetcorn. In addition, we will also be serving up freakshakes and mocktails.

"Our tagline is 'Eat meat, drink, repeat'.

"I have no previous business experience but I have a passion for good food and saw a gap in the market.

"I would often travel as far as London and Manchester for halal burgers and steaks and just couldn't understand why, even now, no one had introduced the concept to Newport.

"I want people to be able to enjoy gourmet high end food in their own city."
