While commuters bemoan the lack of Tube today, a survey has found many Londoners don’t have such fondness for the Underground at other times.

In fact, to a large proportion of people, the Tube is hell on days when it’s running normally and there isn’t a strike.

When polled about services (including the Overground and DLR), a third of people said travelling on the Underground makes them “lose faith in humanity”, and 37 per cent wished they didn’t have to use the Tube at all.

The Central line came out as the most hated line followed by Northern and District.

And these are the worst five stations according to the commuter survey:

  1. Kensal Rise (Overground)
  2. Queensbury (Jubilee line)
  3. Dalston Junction (Overground)
  4. Elm Park (District)
  5. Sloane Square (District and Circle)

Among the main Tube travel gripes revealed, or at least confirmed, were overcrowding, high fares, unbearable heat in the summer, delays, engineering works and the tunnels of interchanges between different lines and stations.

Other passengers also cause much annoyance, especially when they refuse to move further down the carriage or when they rudely push their way through.

Being drunk and loud, not taking off bulky backpacks on busy trains and passengers only looking for their Oyster card when they get to the barrier are other grievances.

On a more positive note, more than half of the 1,500 Londoners surveyed said the Underground makes their lives better.

Favourite lines are the DLR and Jubilee, followed by Victoria and the Overground.

The top five stations are:

  1. North Ealing (Piccadilly line)
  2. Kenton (Bakerloo and Overground)
  3. Anerley (Overground)
  4. Rotherhithe (Overground)
  5. Canonbury (Overground)

The research, carried out for flat-share service EasyRoommate, found 90 per cent of Londoners feel the local Tube station is an important factor in deciding where to live.

Therefore an interactive map has been created to help people find the best place to live for an easy commute based on the type of property they’re looking for and their monthly budget.
