Thousands took to the streets to celebrate the annual Milaad.

The events have become increasingly popular over the past few years and crowds this year braved freezing temperatures to march through towns.

They are held to celebrate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and are organised by volunteers of all ages and backgrounds.

Masjid e Raza and Madina Masjid , Blackburn hosted the first procession and over 5,000 took part. The march began on Oak street and made its way along Whalley Range and across London Road before ending on Randal St.

Randal Street where Masjid-e-Raza is based was lit-up brightly this year with the majority of the homes decorated with lights.

It was a stunning sight to behold.

Milaad for us is about getting the whole Community together to celebrate the Birth of our Prophet (PBUH) in Peace and Harmony.

Noor Muhammad, president of the Raza Mosque, said: “Joining in the peaceful procession is very exciting, fun for the children, and good for the community.”

A week later the Jamia Ghosia Mosque based on Chester street organised a similar event. Mohammed Sadiq from the Mosque said, “Milaad for us is about getting the whole Community together to celebrate the Birth of our Prophet (PBUH) in Peace and Harmony.

On the same day the Ghosia Mosque in Nelson was the venue for Pendle’s biggest religious march.

Coun Nadeem Ahmed, the mayor of Pendle, said: “It was a very good turnout considering the weather, it was very slippy underfoot.

“Mosques from across Burnley and Pendle take part. “It is a real celebration event.”

The event again attracted hundreds from across the region.

Organisers of all the processions would like to thank the police for their assistance and all the volunteers who helped to ensure things went smoothly.
