Beardwood School reunion events planned for summer

A series of major reunion events are being planned for those who attended a school in Blackburn.

Beardwood Humanities College is due to close in August this year as part of the Building Schools for the Future Programme.

To mark this, a series of reunion events are being organised this June and July to celebrate the achievements of past pupils, staff and governors.

The school was originally known as Billinge Grammar School before changing its name to Billinge High School.

It then became Beardwood High School and is now known as Beardwood Humanities College.

The biggest event will take place at King George’s Hall on Saturday, June 16. It will celebrate all the accomplishments of the pupils who attended the school between 1966 and 2012 and is aiming to attract over 1,500 past pupils and staff.

The school is looking to private businesses in the area to sponsor the events for which organisers are expecting a high demand for tickets.

Mrs Ruby Hussain, headteacher, said, “We want to invite the whole community to celebrate the achievements of the pupils and the staff at this school. The school has a proud history and many people have fond memories of their time here. It will be a fitting tribute to recognise those memories through these series of community events.”

A special Facebook page has been set-up entitled ‘From Billinge to Beardwood 1966-2012’.

Those people with photographs from the past 46 years are asked to get in touch as soon as possible. The full list of events includes: A celebration for the wider community, including parents on Saturday, June 2.

A reunion for all past Governors on Tuesday, June 26.

A reunion for pupils from 2007-2012 on Frida,y June 29.

A reunion for all staff on Friday, July 13.
