Security at the country’s largest Islamic event is being reviewed in light of events in Norway.

‘Living Islam’ will take place at the Lincolnshire Showgrounds from 28 to 31 July 2011. Organisers hope to attract over 4,000 people from Britain and across Europe.

Glasgow raised and educated Dr Aman Durrani is head of security at the four day event. He said: “We have been liaising with Lincolnshire Police for over a year. I plan to have another meeting with them soon. Keeping in mind what has happened in Norway, it would be fair to say we are reassessing our security plans.”

It is understood organisers will request adequate police presence proportionate to the current threat level.

Norwegian gunman Anders Breivik revealed in court that his actions were in part due to his concern at the Islamificaiton of Europe.

Officers from Metropolitan Police have travelled to Oslo to investigate if the 32-year-old had any links with the English Defence League (EDL) or other British based right wing groups.

The Quilliam Foundation, a UK based counter extremist think tank, recently advertised a round table discussion two ex senior members who had denounced the EDL.

The aim was to discover more about an organisation which claims to oppose militant Islam. However both Harry Burns and Leighton Evans pulled out after reportedly receiving threats.

James Brandon Quilliam’s head of research said: “The tragic events in Norway show that extremism, violence and terrorism are not confined to any one race or religion. There are extremists in all communities and all societies.”

He added that Governments should be aware that Breivik appears to have partly radicalised himself online.

Meanwhile the EDL has released a statement distancing themselves with the Norwegian mass murderer.
