Over 500 guests attended this year's 'The Mosaic Talent Awards' in the presence of Guest of Honour, HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal of Jordan.

The event was held at the iconic Battersea Power Station, to recognise, celebrate and nurture the amazing talent of young Muslims, from all over the country and beyond.

Celebrating the hard work and determination of young British Muslims, entrants could be nominated for 11 categories: Young Entrepreneur, Science and Technology, Arts and Culture, Community Leadership, Young Volunteer, Excellence in Education, Interfaith, International, Media, Sports and Mosaic Mentor of the Year.

The judging panel for the Talent Programme and Awards was led by Mosaic’s Chairman, HRH Princess Badiya bint El Hassan with judges from all sectors, including Monawar Hussain DL - Imam at Eton College; John May - Chief Executive of Young Enterprise; Professor Jim Al-Khalili - Professor of Physics, University of Surrey and star of BBC television’s Science and Islam series; and, Yasir Mirza - Head of Diversity at The Guardian.

“The range and variety of candidates was most impressive and deciding on the winners turned out to be a very difficult and emotional experience” said HRH Princes Badiya bint El Hassan of Jordan, Chairman of Mosaic UK.

Stories like that of the Mosaic Sports Award winner, Wadhah Saleh, whose dedication to Karate secured him 12 world titles at the tender age of 17, whilst also mentoring children from the Yemeni and wider Muslim community in his home town of Toxteth in Liverpool, are a true contribution to society.

HRH Princess Badiya personally presented the Mosaic Mentor of the Year Award to Asif Sadiq, a serving member of the City of London Police and an inspirational mentor in Mosaic’s secondary schools in London.

Other awards were presented by special celebrity guests including, comedian David Baddiel, star of Channel Four’s Secret Millionaire Mo Chaudry, novelist Monica Ali and BBC’s The Choir star Gareth Malone.

Sponsorship and partnership support came from a number of organisations and individuals who have identified the importance of Mosiac and its work including Ernst & Young, Mr Tidjane Thiam, Islamic Relief, Google, Penguin, Iwaan Business & Lifestyle, Fenchurch Advisory Partners, Etihad Airways, The Guardian, Accenture and Mr Asif Aziz.
