Blackburn is again hosting a special market to celebrate the end of Ramadhan.

It follows the success of last year's event, which was the first of it's kind and attracted more than 3,000 people.

This year's Blackburn Market Chand Raat Eid Festival will be held on September 7, two days before Eid-ul-Fitr - the annual celebration ending the Islamic month of fasting.

The event will take place from 5pm until 10pm at the front of the town hall in King William Street. It has been moved because of the number of people who are expected to turn up.

The finest in Asian produce will be on offer with stalls selling a wide range of items from clothes, embroidered material, jewellery, scents, hijabs and purses to foods, accessories, Islamic art, shawls and scarves.

Free activities will run alongside both markets including henna painting, facial threading, Indian head and hand massage, face painting, balloon modelling and children's rides.

There will be free Indian Sweets (Methai) for the first 100 visitors.

Radio Ramadhan 87.7FM will also broadcast from the rooftop during the event and the public are invited to send Eid wishes and greetings on the night. Councillors Alan Cottam, executive member for regeneration and design, said: "Back by popular demand! Last year's event was fantastic and I am sure that this year's event will be even better. There was a special atmosphere in the town centre to mark this very important date in the Muslim calendar and visitors travelled to Blackburn from all over the country." The market car park will be closed throughout the day on Tuesday, September 7 for preparations for the festival.
