A man who worked at a British Airways call centre will appear in court accused of terrorist offences.

Rajib Karim, 30, of Newcastle upon Tyne, was arrested by officers from Scotland Yard’s counter-terrorism command on February 25.

They swooped on the Newcastle call centre where he worked among 800 staff dealing with passenger bookings.

Staff can access details of thousands of flights and are familiar with basic security procedures.

He faces two charges of preparing for terrorism, one inside Britain, the second overseas, between April 2006 and last month.

A third charge accused him of illegal fundraising between the same dates by sending money to others who might use it for terrorism.

Karim will appear in custody before London’s City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court today.

Scotland Yard also arrested three men in Slough, Berkshire, during the inquiry. They were released without charge on Tuesday.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said Karim was charged following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service counter-terrorism division.
