Dome could be hotspot for jobs

THOUSANDS of local jobs could be created with the Dome set to become one of the worlds leading centres of innovation and excellence, through the Knowledge City development.

Preferred bidders, the Legacy Consortium has been working hard to satisfy the requirements laid down by English Partnerships and other members of the competition team over the past few months. Knowledge City aims to become a centre of innovation, excellence and incubation for companies, and research conducted by Pricewaterhouse Coopers has outlined the real prospect of the scheme providing 14,000 jobs.

Chief Executive of Legacy Plc, Robert Bourne, said: I am delighted that we have now been selected as the preferred bidder to take purchase of the Millennium Dome.

Knowledge City will aim to become one of the worlds leading centres of innovation and excellence in the fields of high technologies, e-commerce and bio-science, so that the Dome becomes a real symbol of Enterprise Britain.

Legacy was one of two bids left at the end of the Legacy competition, which called upon interested parties to compete for future ownership of the Dome.

But the consortium was initially superseded by Nomura who planned to convert the site into an urban theme park, with estimated investment of £800m over four years.
