The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community will unveil Canada's largest Mosque Complex and a stunning architectural landmark in Calgary this weekend.
With a total area of approximately 48,000 sq. ft. the new Mosque will aim to be a symbol of peace and social harmony.
The Head of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Mirza Masroor Ahmad will inaugurate the new mosque.
The Prime Minister, Stephen Harper - Leader of National Liberal Party, Stephene Dion - His Worship Dave Bronconnier, Mayor of Calgary, together with other senior community and political figures and the larger Calgary community will attend the opening ceremony.
The inauguration of the mosque coincides with the current year long celebration of the Centenary of the Khilafat (Caliphate) in the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
The Ahmadiyya Community is renowned for reminding Muslims around the world that "loyalty to your homeland (Canada), is part of your faith".
According to the President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Canada, Mr. Lal Khan Malik, "the opening of this mosque is an historic occasion for the Ahmadi Muslims to add to the Canadian society. We invite everyone to use it as a meeting place to build harmony and respect."
"The Community is elated that His Holiness will inaugurate the Mosque with a Friday sermon that will be telecast live-via-satellite across the globe. The mosque is a very important part of the community and will bring Muslims and non-Muslim closer together," he added.
"This mosque will form a very important hub for the community where people will pray and enjoy many other social, sports and cultural activities," said Naseem Mahdi, Missionary Incharge & Senior Vice president of the Community.
It took over two years and CDN 15 million dollars of voluntary donations from the members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
Members of the Community from all across Canada made personal financial sacrifices to help complete this project. Additional mosque projects are in various stages at in Vancouver, Saskatoon and Brampton.
