HIGHWAYS teams from Cumbria County Council responded with more than 100 incidents caused by Storm Ali yesterday (Wednesday).

The hardest-hit areas of the county have been Carlisle and along the west coast of the county.

With a yellow weather warning for rain in place for Cumbria this morning (Thursday), people are being advised to avoid making non-essential journeys during the current severe weather conditions.

If you do need to travel, please drive with extreme caution and allow extra time for your journey.

Highways staff worked throughout the day at multiple locations throughout Cumbria to remove debris and fallen trees blown down in the storms.

They have been dealing with more than 100 incidents, including:

Allerdale

  • Over 20 separate locations
  • Two road closures due to fallen trees

Barrow

  • Two road closures – one due to a tree fallen against the TA Centre on Holker Street, and the other due to danger presented by falling slates.

Carlisle

  • 37 separate locations being attended to.

Eden

  • Over 20 separate locations being attended to.

South Lakeland

Over 15 separate locations, mainly in the west of the area.
