A BRADFORD property owner who ignored a notice from Bradford Council telling him to remove accumulated rubbish from the back yard of his house must now pay almost £1,400 in fines and costs.

Mohammed Yasser had been served with a Community Protection Notice requiring him to remove rubbish from the outside of a property he owns in Newlands Place, Bradford.

Despite being given additional time by Bradford Council to remove the waste he failed to do so and was prosecuted and convicted in his absence by Bradford magistrates on August 31.

Yasser, of Killinghall Road, Bradford, was ordered to pay a fine of £660, costs of £673 and a victim surcharge of £66.

Magistrates also granted a Remedial Order which means he could face further court action if he still fails to remove the waste as directed by the court.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: “If rubbish is dumped on private land, the owner is responsible for clearing away waste, not Bradford Council.

“We are always willing to work with landowners and give them advice about how to clear their property and how to safeguard it from further fly-tipping.

“However, when landowners fail to take our advice and do nothing to clear away eyesores on their property we have no choice but to take legal action to force them to clean up their act.”

“If you see fly-tipping taking place, please note down as many details as possible, including vehicle licence plate numbers and inform the Council.”

Fly-tipping can be reported be calling the Council on 01274 431000 or online at www.bradford.gov.uk.
