Students and staff at Blackburn College were celebrating this morning as students collected their A-Level Results with the numbers of Blackburn College students achieving high grades continuing to improve.

Blackburn College students achieved a 100% A-Level pass rate in 23 subjects (an increase of 5 subjects from the previous year) with a 2% increase in A-Level A* to A grades.

The College is celebrating that 34% of A-Levels are graded A* to B in a year when A-Level reforms have taken place.

One such student was Unaisa Adam, aged 18, who studied A-Levels in Chemistry, Biology and Psychology and gained A*, AA.

Unaisa is going to the University of Manchester to study BSc Optometry and was absolutely delighted with her results.

Unaisa said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Blackburn College – the teachers and students were very friendly and helped to make my time at Blackburn amazing.

“The thing that stood out the most about Blackburn College was the staff – they were extremely accommodating and always happy to help. They encouraged me to undertake work experience which I did at Tyrrells & Embery Optometry and working here really helped to shape my University application and confirmed that Optometry was for me.”

“My future ambition after University is to become an Optometrist and I hope to one day manage my own firm of Opticians. Blackburn College helped me to be confident in my academic abilities and pushed me to follow my ambitions of becoming an Optometrist.”

Unaisa added: “I would definitely recommend Blackburn College to others as it was a great place to learn with various teaching methods and support that suited all types of learners.”

Abdullah Ali (17) from Blackburn was delighted with his A-Level results, receiving AAB in Mathematics, Business Studies and Biology.

Abdullah is progressing to the University of Leeds to study BSc Computer Science with Mathematics and he cannot wait to start in September.

Abdullah said: ““I am so happy about my A-Level results! I didn’t think that I would be going to my first choice of University but I got the results I needed and feel so excited!”

“I had a great time at Blackburn College and my tutors have been amazing – they were always happy to help and have really helped me achieve my best.”

“Being a student at Blackburn College has definitely made me more confident and has boosted my ambition to succeed, especially with the extra activities that we were able to take part in such as Young Enterprise.”

Abdullah added: “My tutors gave us all of the resources we needed to achieve and help with our studies. I am so happy and can’t wait to start University in September!”
