A BRADFORD family have told of their distress and fear after being involved in what is being investigated as an alleged racially motivated assault at a holiday park.

Ajad Iqbal was on holiday with his partner Emma Roberts and four children, aged between one and six, at Skipsea Sands Holiday Park in Skipsea, East Yorkshire, when the incident happened.

Mr Iqbal and his family, from Idle, believe it was racially motivated and reported the incident to police.

The family arrived at the resort earlier this month, and Ms Roberts said “everything was fine for the first two days” before the incident happened.

She said: “We went to watch the football match – England vs Croatia in the World Cup semi-final – at a family bar.

“The fire alarm went off and everyone had to evacuate, and when we went back in our drinks had been taken from our table.

“My partner [Mr Iqbal] asked the bar staff where the drinks had gone, and the bouncer came over and threw him out. They said he was speaking badly to the bar staff.

“My partner was injured and they would not ring an ambulance.

“He had badly grazed knees and his palms were also scraped so badly he couldn’t drive.

“There was CCTV footage of the incident that police should have.

“This is a holiday camp for children, we shouldn’t have been treated like this.”

Mr Iqbal said he had been enjoying the holiday up until the incident at the beach-side holiday park.

He added: “We were terrified up there, I have never seen a bouncer throw someone out in the way I was thrown out.

“I had made a lot of friends up there and was having a really good time with my family and children, I do not know why he would want to do this to me.”

A spokesperson for Skipsea Sands Holiday Park said: “We are not aware of a police investigation into an incident, and are confident that our holidaymakers are treated well and fairly by our people on park.”

Humberside Police confirmed it is investigating an incident at the park.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers are investigating after a report of an alleged racially aggravated assault at a holiday park in East Yorkshire.

“It happened at the Skipsea Sands Holiday Park on Wednesday, July 11, around 11pm in the bar area.
