A SEX predator jailed for repeated rape attacks on a vulnerable schoolgirl had his “unduly lenient” sentence increased by five years.

Ansar Mahmood, 37, was locked up for 15 years at Bradford Crown Court after he was convicted of a catalogue of sex crimes in January.

His offences included multiple rapes and sexual assaults, which left his victim with lasting psychological damage.

Some of the attacks took place in the back of Mahmood’s car, and he had offered his victim cash to keep silent.

Mahmood, of Withins Close, Bradford, may also face deportation after serving his sentence, London’s Appeal Court heard.

Lawyers for the Attorney General, Geoffrey Cox QC, argued that Mahmood’s punishment was “unduly lenient” and should be increased.

They highlighted the “systematic and repeated” nature of the assaults and the devastating psychological impact on Mahmood’s victim.

She was under 13 when he violated her, and remains haunted by her ordeal, the court heard.

She no longer trusts people and said her childhood had been overshadowed by “fear and unhappiness” due to the abuse.

The trial process had been “overwhelming and frightening” for her, although she faced it with “great courage”, said Lord Justice Holroyde.

“She feels that she is trapped in a life she did not ask for,” he added.

The appeal judge, sitting with two others, said: “The sentence here failed to adequately reflect the overall seriousness.

“We cannot think that a custodial term of less than 20 years was appropriate.”

Mahmood’s jail term was increased from 15 to 20 years.
