Fashion brand Yves Saint Laurent have been accused of using the Muslim prayer cap in a fashion campaign.

In an ad for the YSL 2018 fall collection by David Sims, Model Kaia is pictured with “The Vicky Bag.”

However, many have drawn attention not to her bag, but what Kaia is wearing on her head.

Kaia’s headwear has been said to resemble the Muslim prayer cap.

Several people took to Instagram to express their indignation.

One Instagram user said, “My dad has been pulling this off better than Kaia since 1950s ha ha.”

Aamiriat added, “Hey Kaia, the muslims called they want their prayer cap back!! @Ysl 's Fall 2018 ad by @davidsimsofficial featuring @kaiagerber is out and it has the topi worn by muslims called 'Taqiyah' .

Taqiyah is the Arabic word for a Muslim skullcap which is derived from (Persian: طاق‎), means a "dome".

This concept is taken from the Jewish traditions as the cap kippah literally means a "dome" (Arabic: Qubba) as well, and whoever wears this dome acknowledges the constant divine presence that covers them.

This particular type of crotched brimless skull cap is called 'Kufi' in north and western Africa.”

Another person wrote, “omg don’t our dads have the same hat.”

Javed_anam posted “Wouldn’t this come under cultural appropriation?? I mean the cap is basically meant for a religious purpose NOT a fashion statement.

"Plus I’m sure kaia’d have no clue what it is but the stylists should have done their research before using some other cultures religious attires for accessories. They won’t use the kippah on ramp then why ours???!”
