We are thinking about it...so here is who England have to play in the forthcoming rounds. By Shwuaib Malik.

Round of 16
With their convincing win over Panama, England are guaranteed to play a knockout match against a team from Group H, where things are still all to play for. If England secure victory over Belgium on Thursday, they will indefinitely top the group, meaning they would play the runner up in Group H.

It is difficult to determine who will be the top 2 from group H but Japan are perhaps slight favourites to top their group since they are playing a Poland side in their last game who are already out of the tournament. In truth, England could be playing any one of Japan, Senegal, or Colombia in the round of 16 whatever the outcome of their game against Belgium.

Quarter Finals
This is where things become more interesting and trickier for England if they were to top the group and win their round of 16 match. Suppose England top the group, and they beat the 2nd placed team from Group H, and Brazil were to top Group E, and Germany were to be runners up in Group F, which both look likely to happen. In this case, Germany and Brazil would play each other in the round of 16 and England would face the winner of this match in the quarters.

England may be in a better position finishing second to Belgium in the group as if they were to win their round of 16 match, they would play the winner of what is shaping up to be Mexico against Switzerland/Serbia which would be a much favourable opponent.

Semi Finals
If England were able to progress through the quarters after topping the group, then they could face France in what would be an extremely difficult match for Southgate’s side.

Alternatively, if England finish second to Belgium, they could be facing Spain or potentially Croatia, where again, England would face a real challenge in reaching the final.

Final
England’s opponent in the final, if they were to get that far is difficult to call, but whoever it was, England would feel confident that they could win their second world cup, and first after 52 years.
