Three Muslim men from Lebanon who were on trial for insulting Christianity were ordered by a judge to memorise verses from the Quran which has references to Mary and Jesus.
Rather than handing down a prison sentence in Tripoli, North of Lebanon, Judge Joceline Matta ordered the men to learn verses from the Quran which depict the high status of Mary and Jesus in Islam.
Matta said that her verdict was meant to teach the young men about Islam’s tolerance and love for Mary and Jesus.
She said, “The law is a school and not just a prison.”
