THE MP has approached another airline in regards to establishing a direct flight link between Amritsar, India, and the UK.
Previously, the MP for Slough, Tan Dhesi, has successfully negotiated with the Indian government to establish a direct link between Amritsar and Birmingham. The direct service is to be started shortly by Air India, and may later extend to Heathrow.
More recently, Mr Dhesi has initiated negotiations with the UK Head of Jet Airways, Lydia Nazareth, about bolstering the link, with Tansir Bukhari, who runs a Slough travel agency, and constituent Jaswinder Singh Rakhra, a constituent.
Mr Dhesi said he was pushing for the link due to the “huge demand from the British Punjabi diaspora and beyond.”
Mr Dhesi said that Ms Nazareth ‘listened intently’ to his case, and requested more information.
Amritsar is the location of the Golden Temple, a principle holy site of the Sikh religion.
