VOLUNTEERS have worked hard to feed the homeless over two days.

Eight volunteers from the Shazad Yaseen Foundation (SYF) were involved in a Homeless Feed at two Slough churches – Holy Family Catholic Church, in Trelawney Avenue, on Friday, December 29, and again at St Mary’s Church, in Church Street on Saturday, December 30, feeding 15 homeless people between them.

Volunteers distributed a range of hot and cold meals, including warm chicken curry, rice, samosas, and lemon drizzle cakes.

The volunteers also spent the evening with the homeless, talking and enjoying a meal with them – and despite heavy rainfall on December 30, the volunteers braved the cold to do it all over again.

SYF representative, Zohra Hussain, said “It’s always humbling to give back to the local community.

“If we can make a small difference even to someone’s life, that’s what really counts.

“Talking to the homeless made me realise how thankful they are, even though there having a tough time they appreciate life with a smile on their faces.”

The SYF was created in the name of Shazad Yaseen, a charitable Slough resident who died due to a serious car accident in Pakistan, which he had been visiting as part of a charity trip to help the homeless there.

The family of Mr Yaseen have since launched the charity to keep his good works going, and have been involved in a number of projects, including providing water pumps to third world countries.
