THE LEADER of the council has been cleared in the council's own internal investigation into his conduct.

Cllr Sohail Munawar, leader of Slough Borough Council, is currently suspended from the Labour Party pending the outcome of an investigation into an incident in which he sent an obscene video to council staff.

However, he was cleared this week by Slough Borough Council’s own internal investigation. The report, which was completed by an independent investigator, concluded that “when the video was sent from his phone, Councillor Munawar was not...acting in his official capacity. The Code of Conduct was therefore not applicable to his actions.”

The investigator concluded that while the video was ‘most unpleasant and distasteful’, it was not pornographic. The investigator further claimed it had likely been forwarded to others due to malware, rather than Cllr Munawar’s own actions.

However, Cllr Munawar still faces the outcome of the Labour Party's own investigation.

He is still forbidden to attend Labour Group meetings, and will not regain his post as leader of the Labour Group, which is still being held in an interim capacity by Cllr Sabia Hussain.
