A group which helps to maintain a cemetery is calling upon more volunteers to get involved.

The Friends of Blackburn Old Cemetery are a group of volunteers who are interested in conserving the cemetery gardens.

Not only do they maintain the overall appearance of the gardens, but they also maintain a balance between wildlife and heritage.
Despite only a small number of people knowing about this cemetery, the founder of Blackburn Rovers football club, John Lewis, is buried there.

One of the volunteers said, “Any work is appreciated, and is a good opportunity for you to meet our group and support what they are doing”.

The Blackburn community is being encouraged to help out at the cemetery.

Everybody who volunteers is treated equally and the volunteers.
Group members said they finish off every session with a brew, cake and biscuits which is all donated, and all the money they raise or have donated goes towards new equipment.

Volunteering days are held on Monday evenings from 6.30pm till 8.00pm approx. and Wednesday mornings starting at 10.00am until 12.30pm approx.

Suitable clothing, footwear and gloves will be required and all tools will be provided by the cemetery.
