BOLTON West MP Chris Green joined in Eid celebrations with his constituents.

Members of the Muslim community celebration celebrated the religious festival which follows Ramadan on Sunday.

Mr Green joined Asif Patel and his family at their home in Ladybridge to celebrate the day with them.

Earlier in the week volunteers from the Islamic Education Centre Bolton in Astley Bridge and MA Mission in Halliwell distributed freshly cooked food to shoppers in Bolton, with each food packages bearing messages of unity and love. Later they gathered with guests at the MA Mission Community Centre and mosque in Halliwell Road, Bolton for the second annual Crompton Community Iftaar, the meal to break the fast.

The event was also part of the ‘Great Get Together’ organised in memory of Jo Cox MP. In the weeks leading up to the event, members of the local community were given invitations to attend the breaking of the fast.

More than 120 members of the community gathered.

A one-minute silence was held in memory of all the victims of terror and the Grenfell Tower fire.

A number of speakers addressed the audiences, including Cllr Linda Thomas, deputy leader of Bolton Council and Chan Parmar, for Bolton Interfaith Council.

Sharif Patel who helped to organise the event said: "The guests were then addressed by a range of speakers who highlighted key messages about coming together to get to know one another, breaking down barriers of ignorance and reiterating Jo Cox’s message that we have more in common than that which divides us.

"All the speakers condemned the terror attacks and stated categorically that terrorism has no religion. A real community spirit was experienced and all thoroughly enjoyed the event.

"The teams aim to hold many events similar to these in the future. Everyone left feeling rejuvenated and filled with hope, especially after the tragic events in recent weeks."
