Whilst Muslims around the world are preparing for Ramadan, bear a thought for the Muslim residents of Iceland, Greenland and Finland who will endure 21 hour fasts.
This is closely followed by Kazakhstan who will begin Ramadan with an 18 hour fast.
In some cases where there is less than three hours between maghrib and fajr, fatwas are issued to permit Muslims to follow the timings of the closest city that has a distinguishable day and night time.
For Muslims in the UK, the longest fast will last 18 hours 34 minute.
Some of the shortest fasts, however, will take place in Argentina and Australia with fasts lasting 11 hours 35 minutes.
