AN "EVIL and controlling bully" who imprisoned a woman in his flat and filmed himself raping her has been jailed for more than 11 years.

Rizwan Khan held his victim captive for several days, ordering her to strip naked and stand in a corner before repeatedly sexually abusing her, Bradford Crown Court heard.

He threatened to bring others to his home to drug and rape her and took her into Bradford city centre to show his friends, saying: "This is what the bitch looks like," prosecutor Michael Greenhalgh said.

The court heard that Khan's psychological control over the woman was such that he could take her into bars and a gym knowing she was too afraid to get away.

Khan, 31, of Bowling Hall Road, Bowling, Bradford, was convicted by a jury last month of three charges of rape, single counts of sexual assault, false imprisonment and affray and two counts of common assault.

Sentencing him yesterday, Judge Jonathan Rose said of his victim: "She would have been in great fear of what you would do. You forced her to undress and stand in a corner. You humiliated and degraded her."

The court heard that the woman escaped when her uncle called at the flat. She fled with him, locking Khan in with his own keys.

Khan then sent threatening messages to the uncle's phone and a video of a sex act between himself and the woman.

Khan tracked her to a house of a female friend of hers where he physically attacked both of them.

Mr Greenhalgh said Khan and his victim were in a short relationship.

After they had split up, he went to find her at her friend's home, held a knife to her stomach and hit and kicked her before imprisoning her at his address.

In a statement to the court, the woman said she felt controlled during their relationship.

"I was scared of him. He had a bad temper and would go off on one," she said.

"If I had stayed with him, he would have continued to hurt me, hit me and beat me."

She said Khan was jealous, telling her what to wear as if he owned her.

"He told me to wear a particular perfume on a particular day," she stated.

She now could not bear to wear perfume at all. She was on anti-depressants, kept herself covered up and rarely went out.

"My description of him and the relationship can only be described as evil," she said.

Khan's barrister, Kirstie Watson, said he continued to deny all the offences.

He was the father of two children from previous relationships and his new partner, who had attended court to support him, was pregnant with his child.

He had no previous convictions for sexual offences or violence towards women.

Khan was on the vulnerable persons wing in prison after he was attacked from behind and knocked unconscious.

Judge Rose said Khan was aware that his victim had previously suffered issues in her life.

"What you did to her was to control and bully her. She had little or no personal freedom," he said.

"Violence was your game and you used violence on her."

When she left him, his arrogance was offended and he went to her friend's house to get her back.

"You lack any evidence of empathy towards her," Judge Rose said.

Khan was jailed for a total of 11 years three months.

He must sign on the sex offenders' register for life and the judge made a Sexual Harm Prevention Order banning Khan from having any contact with the woman or publishing any film of her on the internet.

After the case, PC Polly Jackson, of the Bradford District Safeguarding Unit, said: "We would like to thank the victim for the courage she has shown in coming forward and reporting Khan's abuse.

"We hope today's outcome will give her some comfort and allow her to move forward with her life.

"Khan clearly believed he could control and do what he wanted to his victim, as was demonstrated by the abuse and violence she suffered at his hands.

"No one should have to suffer this and we would urge anyone in a similar situation to seek help and report offences to our specially trained officers, who will investigate every report with the aim of bringing perpetrators to justice."
