Here are the five applicants aiming to be Labour’s candidate in the Manchester Gorton.
Members will vote tommorrow night to decide who to select as candidate to replace Sir Gerald Kaufman, who died last month aged 86.
Sir Gerald Kaufman held Gorton in 2015 with 67% of the vote, ahead of the Greens (9.8%), Conservatives (9.7%) and Ukip (8.2%).
The date for the by-election has yet to be confirmed.
The list includes four Manchester Councillors who are up against an MEP who himself was a councillor and former Lord Mayor of the city.
The shortlist includes
Nasrin Ali a Manchester Councillor and Solictor
Yasmine Dar, a Manchester councillor and social worker.
Afzal Khan, MEP for the north west and a former solicitor and former Lord Mayor of Manchester.
Amina Lone, a Manchester councillor who also contested Morecambe and Lunesdale at the general election.
And Longsight Councillor Luthfur Rahman who is presently Executive Member for Culture & Leisure.
