Tributes have been paid to members of a family who were killed in a crash in Saudi Arabia performing the Umrah.

Six Britons died in the crash between Makkah and Medina on Wednesday.

Four were part of one Manchester family and two from Glasgow.

Rabia Ahmed, her sister, Noshina Ahmed and her husband Mohammed Khursheed and Noshina’s grandson, Adam Anis were named amongst the dead.

The Glasgow couple were named as Mohammed and Talat Aslam.

Fozia Zahid, 65, and Sadia Chaudry, 62 of Manchester were critically injured in the crash.

Relative Farah told the MEN, “We are a very close knit family.

"This has been devastating for all of us. Our family is never going to be the same again.

“Everyone is either in shock or completely heartbroken. We are very lucky that our family is well known in Manchester and Glasgow and that there has been a huge show of support from the community already.”

Sophia Ahmed, whose mother was injured, told the BBC, "We were praying that we'd been given the wrong news.

"They all left very happily on Wednesday night... half those people are not there any more."

"My mother has been injured very badly, she has injures to her head, her eyes, her face, her body."

Tour operator Haji Tours said it had been working to arrange visas for relatives yesterday so they could fly to Saudi Arabia.

Mohammed Arif from the firm said, "It is heartbreaking and very sad news.

"Obviously it is a very bad time for the family who are here in the UK."

A Statement from the Foreign office read, "We are supporting the families of six British people who have sadly died following a road accident in Saudi Arabia," the spokesman said.

"We are also helping several more British nationals who were injured in the crash," he added.

"Our thoughts are with the victims and their families at this very difficult time."
