Speaking about her impetus to write the book, Zanib, a Molecular Cell Biologist and founding director of Sweet Apple Publishers said,

“The stereotypical perception of Muslim women is often one of oppression. But I am not oppressed.

“My upbringing and, in fact, my religion empowered me to break the shackles of a terrible marriage and start a life of my own.

“I feel empowered and I wanted to share the power of that emotion with others.

“For me, my strength was my family and my faith. Every person will find strength in something.

“I want young girls all around the globe to know that they can do anything that they put their minds to. They can stand up for their rights, and those of others.

“Maria did a fabulous job of depicting the diversity of the world through the protagonist’s trip around the globe. She shares her unbreakable promise with many people on her travels, which creates a sense of love for humanity and people, regardless of background.”

‘I Promise’ is published on September 2nd at £6.99 paperback original
