A jury has been empanelled in the trial of man accused of murdering a Bangladeshi religious leader.

Twelve jurors will be selected and sworn in at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday morning ahead of the prosecution opening the case.

Mohammed Hussain Syeedy, 21, of Ramsay Street, Rochdale, denies the murder of Jalal Uddin, 64, on February 18.

Mr Uddin was found with head injuries in a children's play area near Rochdale town centre.

He was taken to hospital from the scene in South Street but died a short time later.

It is thought Mr Uddin had earlier visited a nearby mosque for evening prayers.

On Monday, presiding High Court judge Sir David Maddison told prospective jurors that the trial would last between three and four weeks. He adjourned the trial until Tuesday.
