BUSINESSES have lodged a series of complaints about the behaviour of guests attending a large wedding venue nearby.

Fireworks being let off indiscriminately, dozens of cars being parked illegally and people using other firms’ car parks as toilets are among the issues raised against people using HQ Banqueting Suite in Bolling Road, Bowling.

In one video, fireworks can be seen being let off on the central reservation outside HQ Banqueting Suite, as coaches and dozens of cars park illegally around the site.

A spokesman for Mart Smiths, a printing business based on Caledonia Street, said the weddings were causing the firm to consider moving from the area, where it has traded since 2007, as its problems included delivery wagons being turning away as the drivers cannot get access due to parked cars.

“I’m thinking about moving. I’m fed up and it’s got too much,” said the spokesman.

“I’m frustrated and angry and it’s hard to trade.”

Rajeev Accountants in Bolling Road has contacted Bradford Council’s highways department about the ongoing problems.

Its spokesman said: “People are urinating on our car park. It’s disgusting.

“It’s not acceptable for us. I have told them so many times already. There are days when I can’t get round here. Buses can’t get through on to Bolling Road.”

Engine rebuilding company Drakes, also on Bolling Road, has complained to West Yorkshire Police after fireworks were let off in its car park, opposite HQ Banqueting Suite.

A spokesman said: “It’s mayhem and complete and utter chaos.

“They are making such a mess. They have no consideration for anybody else. People are parking illegally on the central reservation.”

Councillor Hassan Khan (Lab, Bowling and Barkerend) urged the firms to continue reporting problems they faced to the Council.

He said: “It is causing trouble for other businesses and it should not be like this.

“Every business has to respect and look after their own environment and the ones around it.”

Ameer Hamzah, manager of HQ Banqueting Suite, said: “We do apologise for any inconvenience caused but we make sure everything in our power is done to prevent such problems.

“We are not here to cause any issues with other businesses. We are here to help.

“If anybody parks where they shouldn’t, we make an announcement during the weddings to ask them to move.

“We do our level best to try to get people to park elsewhere. We do not allow anyone to ignite fireworks on our premises and we strongly discourage use of fireworks in the surrounding areas.

“We do employ a dedicated parking team at such events to make sure visitors are making best use of the facilities. We do try to get everybody to park in the correct bays.

“The majority of our weddings take place in the evenings and weekends, when nearby businesses are not open."

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police are aware of some issues in Bolling Road which have been attributed to events at the recently-opened HQ Banqueting Suite.

“Arrangements have been made to speak to the business to advise them of their responsibilities.

“Other businesses in the area will also be consulted to establish the extent of these issues and how police and partners can resolve them.”

A Bradford Council spokesman said patrols had been increased in the area to deal with litter and parking problems.

“In the last 12 months we have issued 224 Penalty Charge Notices to illegally parked vehicles in Bolling Road," he said.

“Our colleagues in the police are addressing other allegations of anti-social behaviour.”
