POSTCARDS designed by people of all ages will make up a unique exhibition at this weekend’s Saltaire Arts Trail.

Two students from the centre of excellence for business at Shipley College, Fahema Ali and Sabrina Hussain, are leading a project to support the trail by encouraging people to create their own mini masterpieces.

They will eventually be put on sale for a good cause.

The students are working with Saltaire Inspired, the group behind the bank holiday arts event, to manage the postcard exhibition being held at Saltaire United Reform Church from today until Monday.

The theme for this year’s trail is ‘be part of the art’, and this exhibition aims to encourage people of all ages to design a 6” x 4” postcard on any theme and gives everyone the chance to be creative.

Postcards that have already been submitted include tributes to the Bronte sisters and depictions of Saltaire.

The two students will be cataloguing the postcards as they arrive and plan their display at the event. They are also responsible for marketing and publicising the event.

Shipley College principal, Nav Chohan, joined in on the creativity by designing his own postcard. He said: “The students have worked really hard to organise the postcard exhibition project. It’s great to see them working collaboratively with the wider community.”

After the trail, the postcards will be collected, and from June 2 - 30 will be exhibited in the cafe at the Cellar Trust in Shipley. They will be sold by the charity to support their work helping people recovering from mental health problems.

A Cellar Trust spokesman said: “As a local charity helping people experiencing mental health problems, working with an organisation like Saltaire Inspired is a great opportunity to make people more aware of who we are and what we do.”

Chairman of the Saltaire Arts Trail June Russell said: “The postcard exhibition is intended to be a truly inclusive participatory project that welcomes everyone, regardless of experience, to make and show artwork.

“Collaborating with Shipley College students and with the Cellar Trust makes it even more inclusive. It’s rather a work in progress this year and we are delighted with how it’s going and believe it has potential for the future.”

The postcard exhibition will be open in the church from 10am to 5pm.
