A COMMUNITY has expressed their shock after police launched an investigation into the death of a 14-month-old girl.
Little Inayah Ahmed died in hospital three days after she fell ill in her Drumchapel home.
The six-bedroom property situated in a plush estate on Bernisdale Drive was guarded by police yesterday as officers made their way in and out with bags of evidence.
The tot took unwell in her home on Sunday, April 17 and she was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow..
It is understood that she was put on a life support machine as medics battled to save her.
She, however, died on Wednesday, April 20.
It was only after a post-mortem examination that police began a formal investigation into the baby’s death.
Police now say they are treating the death as suspicious and enquiries are ongoing.
One neighbour said the mother of the tot was in a state following the death.
The neighbour added: “We have never had a bit of bother with that family. They were always nice enough.
“I would wave to them as they went past.
“We are so shocked about the wee baby. She was a gorgeous wee thing with a good temperament.
“We were all pretty upset on the street, we just couldn’t believe this wee thing was gone – she was just gorgeous.”
Another neighbour added: “Everybody is talking about it, they just want to know what happened to that little baby.”
The family have since been removed from the property they have lived in for 12 years as police officers continue their investigation.
It is understood the home is owned by Inayah’s grandparents and 11 members of her extended family lived at the property.
Other family members live in two other houses in the estate.
An online fundraising page has been set up in memory of the tot.
Over £1,200 has been raised so far for Medical Aid for Palestine.
The page reads: “On the 20th of April our beloved Inayah went back to our creator.
“She was the life and soul of the family. Without her laughter and antics, everything seems so dull.
“But Inayah left us with many lessons in her short space of time with us. One of them being to hold each and every one of your family members close to your heart.
“In memory of Inayah I want to make a difference to the lives of other children who may not have the benefits of the health care that we take for granted.”
