A couple can then be seen staggering away from the car seemingly unhurt but clearly shocked. The Mercedes was abandoned by the driver and is now in the hands of the police.

The CCTV footage was taken from a nearby shop.

Mr Malik, 43, said: “I was awoken by my son who heard some alarms going off and when I got outside it was shocking to see my car dragged so far down the street.

“The driver had crashed and left the Mercedes in the middle of the road.”

Mr Malik said he had been told his car was a write-off.

He added: “The damage is extensive to both cars. I am shocked at how far the car was dragged down the street.

“It must have been going pretty fast because my car has moved by 30-40 feet. This part of the road is a 20 miles-per-hour zone.”

In the 46-second clip, the stationary car can be seen in the road, parked just beyond a stretch of double yellow lines, before the Mercedes smashes into the back of it.

The Audi is shunted down the road before the Mercedes comes to a stop next to it with its hazard lights flashing.

The footage then shows a couple getting out of the Mercedes and jogging away from the scene, leaving their car in the middle of the road.

The clip finishes with two passing cars stopping at the scene.

Mr Malik said he bought his car only two years ago for £6,800.

Police said they were aware of the damage-only collision, which happened at around 1.30am on Sunday, but said no arrests had been made so far.

Cllr Salim Mulla, who represents the area said: “I think that we have a major problem in the area with speeding.

“I think that it does not help when some people park irresponsibly on either side of the road as it makes it narrow.

“However there is no excuse for people to be driving at such high speeds anywhere.

“People do not realise that anybody could be killed after such a crash.

“I’m outraged that these nutters are around and I would urge people to take great care in that area in the future.

“People should have no reason whatsoever to break the speed limit.”
