A five-year-old boy suffering from cancer had his wish come true with a surprise visit to Disneyland Paris.

Eashan Patel, 5, from Cheam, was diagnosed with an advanced form of Hodgkins Lymphoma last year.

During months of hospital stays at the Royal Marsden undergoing intensive chemotherapy, Eashan watched adverts for Disneyland over and over again on television, wishing he could make the trip.

That dream became a reality when the Starlight Children's Foundation arranged travel and accommodation for Eashan to visit the theme park with his family in June, once he was well enough.

Eashan's mother, Minal, 35, said: "Eashan spent months in hospital watching adverts of Euro Disney and always said he wanted to go.

"His last holiday was in 2013 so he was so keen to go away - but then he became sick."

The Starlight Children's Foundation, a charity that aims to grants wishes for seriously ill children, even organised a queue jump for the park so Eashan did not get too tired from walking or standing up.

Eashan faces surgery and another round of chemotherapy later this year, but the trip allowed the family a break from worrying about his treatment to watch fireworks, try out rides - and, of course, meet Mickie and Minnie.

Mrs Patel said: "The trip allowed him to have fun and live a normal life, he met some of his favourite characters and loved all the rides. It was his first theme park and he loved every second it."

"The most important thing to him was that we all were together as a family after months of being separated by hospital stays."

After he got back, Eashan was eager to tell his friends at Brookfields Primary School about the trip - but not as eager as he was to go back.

He asked: "Can we go again this weekend?"
