A charitable organisation has been delivering toys and presents to children in hospitals across Manchester as part of Eid celebrations.

Organisers at the Myriad Foundation launched the project entitled ‘Let them know it’s Eid time' in conjunction with the Francis House and Rainbow Trust.

They encouraged fellow Muslims to donate gifts, rehabilitation aids and toys to a selection of Mosques around the City, so that they can be delivered to the hospices in time for Eid.

Ali Mahmood, CEO said “Eid is a wonderful celebration and an opportunity for families to get together and enjoy some quality time together.

"There are feasts, games and the sharing of gifts; with Ramadan being a month of personal reflection, abstinence and contemplation it is only natural that it should culminate in us wanting others, who may be less fortunate, to have an equally joyful day."

The Rainbow Trust and Francis House are both hospices which care for young people with terminal illnesses and short life expectancies.

They offer a 24/7 residential service and rely heavily on charitable donations and goodwill and have been offering bespoke services for many years.

Due to the overwhelming number of donations they will now be distributing the presents across 5 different locations, which include three children hospitals.

Sara Saed said, “I did something similar when I was studying at University in Manchester, we had a really positive response and we were just an average group of people who wanted to put a smile on a child’s face.

"After joining up with the Myriad Foundation, I got the opportunity to present the concept to the senior leadership team who, to my surprise, really loved the idea and gave me full backing to deliver it-putting me down as project lead too.

"Being met with such a positive response was heart warming and endearing.”

Members of the community were able to donate presents at the following places Didsbury Islamic Centre, British Muslim Heritage Centre, Altrincham Islamic centre, Cheadle Muslims Association.

The team were able to gather over 250 gifts and these were presented to the hospices on Eid; to be distributed to the children this week across five different locations.

The ceremony was marked with a brief overview of Ramadan and motivations behind the project followed by light refreshments and friendly discourse.

The Myriad Foundation is a charitable organisation, developed with an Islamic ethos.

They have a series of projects around helping citizens facing food poverty to supporting the terminally ill who may face social isolation alongside developing projects in aid of community capacity building, outreach and education.
