Detectives have confirmed the identities of a man who was found hanged near a reservoir and those of his two teenage daughters and their mother whose bodies were discovered at a nearby property.

Twins Niya and Neha Rethishkumar, 13, were found dead at a house in Grove Road in Chadwell Heath, east London, on Tuesday afternoon, along with their mother Shighi Kotuvala, a 37-year-old social worker.

The girls' father, Pullarkattil Rethish Kumar, 44, was found hanged near a reservoir in Forest Road, Walthamstow yesterday morning.

Scotland Yard sad that while formal identification awaits, they are "confident" that they are correct.

Post-mortem examinations are being carried out today, and police said the female bodies had no signs of visible injuries.

The last confirmed sighting of the family - who are originally from Kerala state in India - was on Sunday, police said.

Officers first went to the property on Monday evening after concerns were raised about the welfare of the residents, but they did not enter because there was no response or any signs of disturbance.

Police finally forced their way in at 1.10pm on Tuesday, when they found the bodies of Ms Kotuvala and her two children.

The matter was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and the Met's directorate of professional standards is reviewing the police response.

Detective Superintendent Kenny McDonald, who is overseeing the investigation from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "At this stage we are awaiting the outcome of the post-mortems to confirm cause of death, which will provide further evidence of what has taken place inside the house at Grove Road.

"However, at this stage in our ongoing investigation we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths. We are making extensive inquiries to trace next of kin, who we believe to be outside of the UK."
