A motorist who crashed his Range Rover into two pedestrians causing serious injuries before leaving the scene has been jailed.

Shafi Mohammed, aged 33 of Trenance Gardens, Ilford was sentenced at the Old Bailey to two years nine months for causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He was earlier found guilty for having no insurance, failing to stop and failing to report a collision.

In the early hours of Saturday 14 December 2013 Mohammed was driving a grey Range Rover along Houndsditch in the City of London when he hit a kerb causing the car to flip over onto its side and hit two pedestrians before hitting a bus stop.

Two pedestrians, a 28 year old woman and man in his 30’s, suffered serious injuries and one of the two male passengers travelling in the Range Rover also suffered serious injuries as part of the collision.

City of London Police officers attended the scene of the collision to find that Mohammed had fled the scene of the collision.

He was later traced to him home address and arrested.

He has also been disqualified from driving for three years.

Sergeant Sarah Smallwood of Collision Investigation Unit said, “Mohammed fled the scene of a crash he had caused whilst three people lay suffering from very serious injuries.

“He has shown no remorse, and his disregard for them and other road users that night has affected the victims deeply. “Today’s sentence will hopefully assist in bringing closure to them after this ordeal”
