A UNIQUE alcohol awareness initiative aimed at Bradford’s Hindu community took place at Bradford’s Kala Sangam centre.
The fun family event, complete with bouncy castle and face painting for children, was organised by the Piccadilly Project and gave information and advice on alcohol to some 44 adults who attended.
“It was the first of its kind and a real success,” said Piccadilly Project volunteer Mehnaz Bibi.
“Everyone had a great time too.”
She said alcohol abuse was an increasing issue among South Asian communities and that this was the first time an event had been tailored to Indian Hindus, whose religion tolerates the use of alcohol, whereas it is strictly prohibited in Islam.
