A KEIGHLEY restaurateur has successfully completed the Chicago Marathon to help people struggling against Alzheimer's Disease.

Syed Ahmed, who owns Moghuls Restaurant, in North Street, finished the race in four hours 34 minutes. He has already raised at least £500 worth of sponsorship cash for the Alzheimer's Society, but expects the total to grow as further donations continue coming in.

Mr Ahmed, 46, who is a married father of two, has been in America for 10 days and is due to return to England today. He took part in his latest marathon on Sunday.

His son, Ishtiaq, said: "It went fine, the weather was a bit up and down so he needed to take more kit with him in order to be properly prepared. But he had no problems with fitness and he felt ready to run another marathon afterwards!

"He's now ready to come back and resume duties in the kitchen.

"He should also hopefully be running the 2015 London Marathon in aid of people with Alzheimer's."

In the spring of last year Mr Ahmed senior completed both the London Marathon and that year's Edinburgh Marathon. His double achievement was all the more impressive as he has a long-term spinal condition called ankylosing spondylitis.
