With a title like ‘Pehchaan’, I couldn’t wait to hear this ‘trademark’ sound and see whether the song lived up to it’s name and rip into it, as I do.

When I first heard this song, I wasn’t too sure whether it was trying to be a Bollywood song or an Asian ballad but I think that’s what I like about it; that it’s not trying to be something it isn’t.

There’s a feel of both in there but the mix is just right that we can probably say that it is in a genre of its own.

Now when I heard about the story behind this song before the song itself; a local young lad, wrote this song for his wife-to-be to be gifted to her as a wedding present and later was encouraged by his friends to release it, I was truly inspired.

I felt the song was about more than just a way of making money (Pehchaan was available for free download on dropbox when released) or achieving fame, it was more about an expression of love and it shows in the lyrics and simplicity of video.

Thankfully, there’s no cheesy dancing in fields and no guy lusting after a girl in a club with a flashy car. Just a family-friendly video telling the story of how the lyrics came to be and there needs to be more meaningful videos like this out there.

My only criticism is that the video could have been better produced but saying that, it still beats some of the recent videos I have had the displeasure of watching.

Usman’s new single ‘Pyaar’ will be released on iTunes on 27th August 2014, the proceeds of which will be donated to Royal Manchester’s Children Hospital so I can’t think of a better reason for you all to download it.

MY Verdict: Nice song, great lyrics. I wish there was more from the artist vocally but I look forward to the next release. I hope he stays true to his signature sound.
