A Hindu MP says he has regrets after being filmed trying to force feed a Muslim man during the holy month of Ramadan.
Both houses of India's parliament were adjourned after the reports that MPs from the right-wing Shiv Sena party took their anger out on a government canteen worker because their food of choice was unavailable.
Other political parties have condemned the action it was a grave violation of one's religious beliefs.
During Ramadan Muslims around the world abstain from food and drink from before dawn until dusk.
One of the MP's involved, Rajan Baburao Vichare now says he was only trying to protest against the quality of the food.
He was reported as saying, "I came to know that the employee was a Muslim only after seeing TV footage and I regret it.”
Party HeadUddhav Thackeray told the NDTV news channel, Shiv Sena has denied the incident took place. "There was no intent to hurt religious sentiments... now it appears the Sena's version is being suppressed."
