As the Palestinian horror unfolds daily, thousands of people across the UK and globally are engaged in fund raising activities aiming to provide vital supplies.

In a small corner of Blackburn, at the foot of Whalley Old Rd beneath the Little Harwood arched bridge facing Beechwood Rd, a family decided eight days ago, to raise funds through a cake sale from their doorstep.

Resident Abid Hussain Rashid said “ I was inspired after seeing the atrocities committed and much suffering by innocent women and children. I just knew I had to do something. I spoke to my niece and we decided to bake and sell cup cakes.

"We have been amazed at the response from people of all communities willing to help us. The youth especially have gone out of their way to promote the cause. Councillor Salim Sidat has put us in touch with Interpal and gone to great lengths to help with posters, publicity and more also. We'd like to thank them all from the bottom of our hearts.”

What started as a doorstep enterprise has seen the family working 20 hours a day selling from 9am till 9pm and baking by niece Amina Rashid, behind the scene indoors after hours. Sales are averaging at about 500 a day daily with cake donations at a pound a cake.

The target is to raise £5,000 with all funds going to provide much relief to the innocent people in the Gaza strip.

It is also intended highlight the issue impressing the conscience of the local community as peoples the world over witness the daily massacres in a land devoid of peace despite it’s holier than holy history.

Niece Halima Rashid added “ It is a duty on all Muslims to do something. We are all accountable to Allah and must help the suffering people”.

It is intended to continue to sell cakes until the 27th fast of Ramadan next Thursday when the family hope to take rest bite after a week many would rather forget as the chaos and drama continues in the Middle East.

Unfortunately the Palestinians do not have that luxury nor choice in their current wretched lives.
