In a first for Manchester, the city’s retailers are set to open their doors for late night shopping in the run up to Eid.

The religious holiday marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting and will be on July 28 or July 29 this year.

Late night openings will run on Friday July 25th and Saturday 26th July. Retailers across the Heart of Manchester BID (Business Improvement District) are honouring Eid with extended opening hours and special offers. Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, House of Fraser, Debenhams, Next, Boots, Jack Wills and many more across the city centre will open until 9pm, with various stores running promotions and Manchester Arndale will run exclusive giveaways via its social media channels in the week leading up to Eid.

Irvin Grant, owner of Intro clothing on Deansgate, said: "Outside of Christmas, the week before Eid al-Fitr is our busiest time of year. It's a significant time for retail so we're delighted that this year, through the Heart of Manchester BID, both independent and larger retailers are working collectively to open up the city centre for a weekend of late night shopping, promotions and events."

Anne Latham, Store Manager at House of Fraser said: "Last year we saw a significant uplift in sales in the weeks leading up to Eid, particularly across men’s formalwear, childrenswear and gifts. We will be joining in the celebrations again this year by having two late night shopping events the weekend before so that our customers have the opportunity to come and pick up any last minute gifts.”

Simon Binns, Heart of Manchester BID Manager, said: “This year is the first time stores across the BID will be extending their opening hours in the weekend running up to Eid. With late night opening taking place the last weekend before Eid al-Fitr celebrations, we’re expecting a real surge in footfall in stores across the city centre.”

There are numerous options for those travelling to and from the city, with the NCP in Manchester Arndale offering an evening rate after 5pm, as well as buses and trams servicing all major routes across Greater Manchester.
