A TEAM of firefighters is preparing to take part in a major endurance event to raise money for charity.

Members of York’s Blue Watch will take part in the Yorkshire Warrior extreme obstacle course at the weekend to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds.

The course includes a ten-mile cross-country run, with up to 30 different obstacles, which will see them wade upstream through the River Crimple, through dark railway tunnels, under barbed wire fences and over hay bales, while dodging water cannons on land around Rudding Park in Harrogate.

Firefighter Andy Daw came up with the idea of taking part in the challenge for these specific charities, as he lost his father to cancer last year.

He said: “We would really appreciate all your support and any donations would be greatfully received as every penny really does count. I wanted to give something back to these two specific charities for the outstanding support and care they provided, not only to my dad but also to our family who were all affected by this terrible ordeal.”
