Warning; if you choose to listen to this song, tap the bass levels up, blast the volume and don’t watch the video.

This is the first time in a long time where I have heard Punjabi lyrics over very strong r’n’b inspired music and it fits well. It could be due to Soni-J being a ‘UK born, Pakistani Punjabi’ singer, which means his music represents a good blend of these influences.

.

The music is cool, reminds me a little of Chris Brown and the style with which he hit the urban scene.

The vocals are lovely, Soni-J has a very soft voice and that’s what I think caught me, a bit less of the auto-tune and he’ll do well.
The bass and pace makes it ‘car-blasting’ worthy.

Now my preliminary warning shouldn’t be taken lightly if you want to like this song. Just as much as I enjoyed the song, I was turned off by the video.

The story is once again, young guys in a club; what a wasted opportunity. The song should have been accompanied by something with a bit more class and discretion rather than such an obvious concept.

After hearing the song, I expected the video to be some guy smashing mirrors and singing through the pain, instead there’s head bopping and hand wiping gestures as seen in rap videos. In short, the song has emotion, the video doesn’t.

MY Verdict: ‘Tu Hai Meri Jaan’ would have worked better if they had played up the emotions of the song, they set the standard high with the lyrics and music and the video fell short. I’d definitely recommend you to give it a listen though, I can’t fault the track.
