Top film director coming to Bolton
Writer and film director Asif Kapadia is visiting Bolton in May to deliver a guest lecture at the town's university.
Kapadia was born in Hackney, London and originally studied graphic design before his interest in film-making led to the Royal College of Art.
Kapadia's first feature The Warrior was shot in Rajasthan, India and won the Alexander Korda Award for Best British Film and the Award for the Most Promising Newcomer at the 2002 BAFTAs.
He also won the London Film Festival's Sutherland Trophy for the Most Original and Imaginative First Feature, the Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Newcomer and was Nominated for the European Discovery Fassbinder Award at the 2002 European Film Awards.
His new film Far North premiered at the Venice Film Festival. It stars Michelle Yeoh, Sean Bean and Michelle Krusiec and was shot on the archipelago of Svalbard, one of the most northern settlements in the world, two hours south of the North Pole.
Asif Kapadia's short film The Sheep Thief was also shot in India and made at the Royal College of Art, won the second prize in the Cinefoundation Section at the Cannes Film Festival 1998 and the Grand Prix at the European Short Film Festival.
The lecture will take place in the Main Lecture Theatre at the Chadwick Campus of the University of Bolton and is open to all.
It was originally due to take place on February 7 but has now been changed to Thursday 8 May, from 2pm to 3pm.
