Pakistani art exhibition
The Influence of Heritage, an exhibition of the work of leading artists living and working in Pakistan and the UK comes to the UK.
The exhibition looks at the influence of culture and heritage through the work of four artists - Shahida Ahmed, Jamal Shah, Iqbal Hussain and Nahid Raza.
The exhibition has been arranged by Alison Darnbrough, Curator of Bradford University's Gallery II, and art critic Marjorie Husain, Curator and writer based in Karachi, Pakistan.
Alison Darnbrough said: "I am delighted that despite the state of emergency in Pakistan we have still been able to go ahead with this exhibition.
"At a time when freedom of expression and information have been suppressed in Pakistan we can showcase the work of four people who are able to speak through their art about issues such as oppression, the role of women in a male-oriented society, personal freedom and religion."
The Influence of Heritage runs from Wednesday 5 December 2007 until Friday 18 January 2008 at Gallery II, which is open weekdays 11am - 5pm, Thursdays until 6pm, or by appointment. The exhibition is free to enter.
Gallery II is situated in the Chesham Building on the University of Bradford's main campus off Great Horton Road.
The University of Bradford in collaboration with the Pakistan National Council of the Arts and the new National Gallery of the Arts in Islamabad will showcase the exhibition.
